Secure video consultations Anywhere in South Africa & beyond Same specialist, same standard

Why teledermatology

Specialist care shouldn't depend on your postcode.

South Africa has far fewer dermatologists than it needs, and most practise in major centres. For patients in rural communities and smaller towns, seeing a specialist can mean months of waiting and hundreds of kilometres of travel — so treatable conditions go untreated, and worrying ones go unchecked.

Dermatology happens to be one of the specialities best suited to virtual care: skin is visible. A well-conducted video consultation, supported by good photographs, allows a specialist to assess many conditions, prescribe treatment and monitor progress remotely.

At Omnia Dermatology, teledermatology is not a lesser service — it follows the same method as an in-practice visit: thorough history, careful visual assessment, clear diagnosis and explanation, and a personalised plan. And where a condition genuinely needs in-person examination, you will be told so honestly and helped to arrange it.

Teledermatology works well for

  • Acne assessment, treatment and reviews
  • Eczema and psoriasis flares and follow-ups
  • Rosacea and facial rashes
  • Hair loss consultations and reviews
  • Pigmentation concerns (with quality photographs)
  • Prescription reviews and ongoing management
  • Triage of a worrying spot — how urgently should it be seen?

Who it serves

Built for patients the system forgets.

Teledermatology is one of the practice's proudest offerings — because access is part of good medicine.

Contact the practice

Is a video consultation as good as visiting the practice?

For many conditions, yes — dermatology is highly visual, and a structured video consultation with quality photographs allows accurate assessment and treatment. For concerns that need physical examination or dermoscopy — such as mole checks — an in-practice visit is required, and you will always be told honestly which applies.

What do I need for a teledermatology appointment?

A smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera; a stable internet connection; and a quiet, well-lit spot. You will receive guidance on photographing your skin concern before the appointment — good photographs make a real difference.

Can I get a prescription through a video consultation?

Yes. Where treatment is indicated, prescriptions are issued following your consultation just as they would be after an in-practice visit, and follow-up reviews ensure the treatment is working as intended.

Is my consultation private and secure?

Yes. Consultations take place over a secure video platform, and your medical information is handled with the same confidentiality as any in-practice consultation.

What if Dr Moloabi feels I need to be seen in person?

Then you will be told exactly that, and why. Teledermatology at Omnia is practised with clear boundaries: it is used where it serves you well, and never where it would compromise your care. Your video consultation then becomes the first step in a properly planned in-person visit.
