Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?
You are welcome to book directly with the practice. Some medical aid plans do require a GP referral before they will fund a specialist visit, so it is worth checking your plan's rules before your appointment.
What is the difference between a dermatologist and a skin clinic?
A specialist dermatologist is a medical doctor who has completed years of additional postgraduate training in diseases of the skin, hair and nails. That training means conditions are diagnosed before they are treated — which matters, because many skin problems look alike but need very different treatment.
Can my condition be assessed over video?
Many conditions can be assessed via teledermatology, including acne, eczema, psoriasis flare-ups and follow-up reviews. Some concerns — such as suspicious moles or lesions that need dermoscopy — are best seen in person. If a video consultation is not appropriate for your concern, we will tell you and arrange an in-practice visit.
Does Omnia Dermatology offer aesthetic treatments?
Yes — cosmetic and skin rejuvenation treatments are available, but always as an extension of healthy skin. Omnia is a medical dermatology practice first: the priority is skin that is healthy, and aesthetic care builds on that foundation.
How quickly should I have a changing mole checked?
Promptly. A mole that is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding, itching or simply looks different from your others should be assessed by a dermatologist as soon as possible. Early detection of skin cancer dramatically improves outcomes.
How much do treatments cost?
Treatment costs vary depending on your diagnosis, the complexity of your condition, and the type of treatment recommended. Because every patient's needs are different, an accurate treatment plan and associated costs can only be determined after your consultation and assessment. Once we have established the correct diagnosis, we will discuss the most appropriate treatment options and their costs with you before proceeding.
